Tres poemas de Macdara Woods

Luz Muerta: Diciembre

Tá sé fuar arsa an seanduine
                                            Is é atá  arsa Séismí
                                           Fuar fuar

                                                 -Seamus Ó Grianna, Caisleán Óir

i

He estado aquí antes

toda sangre y hueso y esperanza
todo pasado y futuro

todo uno y ninguno:
y quema aquí el momento ávido
que es y fué

el mismo: escupido para encontrar
y ahogado en
aquel océano en que no podemos entrar

Nota:
Tá sé fuar arsa an seanduine/ Is atá arsa Séismí/ Fuar fuar

                                                 -Seamus Ó Grianna, Caisleán Óir

It is cold, said the old person. That it is said Seimi.

Hace frío, dijo el anciano./ Seimi asintió.

Translated into English by Macdara Woods

Imperfecta historia del Viaje
cuando el tiempo se curva
y los cálculos fallan

Hasta en el diario
tiempo presente
ese punto social confabulado

Tan cerca como podamos llegar
a saber:
ir a dormir a los veintiuno

Y levantarse a los sesenta
solo o junto a
otra cabeza sobre la almohada:

No mucho consuelo
para un estoico
I gCaisleán Óir o cualquier

Lugar excepto lo que hay
que tomaré
levantarse una vez más del pozo

Y yo que no he estado ebrio
en treinta años
puedo recordar

Estar en el camino en España
a los veintiuno: ser
joven en España
con botas españolas.

Nota:  I gCaisleán Óir: in Castle of Gold: en Castillo de Oro

iii

Mis manos dos criaturas amarillas
sobre la página
como lagartos sosteniendo el libro

Mientras aquellas otras pobres criaturas desnudas
se hunden y encajan
alrededor de los márgenes

Balanceándose y gimiendo
jadeando
chupando lamiendo fingiendo

Cien mil veces por hora
como cabezas de pistones:
Spéir-bhean o visión:

Lena cam seang geal-
An tusa Helen nó venus gleóite:
Irlanda de los tiempos presentes

Una voz recordó
¿Oh flor de las exclusas ámbar?
O la del torso desnudo

Serpiente diosa de Creta
que encontré en la biblioteca de la sala
hace tiempo en el condado de Meath:

Las ortigas
y la mujer sátiro desnuda esperando
junto a los cardos en el campo

Nota:

Spéir-bhean: fairy: hada
Lena cam seang geal-: with her bright slender waist: con su brillante y fina cintura
An tusa Helen nó venus gleóite: are you Helen, o beautiful Venus: eres tú Helena o hermosa
Venus.

Dead Light: December

Tá sé fuar arsa an seanduine
                                           Is atá arsa Séismí
                                           Fuar fuar

                                                 -Seamus Ó Grianna, Caisleán Óir

i

I have been here before
in the long wet yellow winter
strands of grass

and crows in the trees above:
then too I felt like starting over
unable to catch

the present moment:
seeing that
there is no present moment

after all
no present language
just the past and future

travelling in opposite directions
rushing further outwards
to the edge

and start of things:
that quick spasmodic clutch of urgency
spilling

into open ground
all blood and bone and hope
all past and future

all one and none:
and burning here an eager moment
been and gone

the same: spat out to find
and drowning in
that ocean that we cannot enter

ii

Imperfect story of the Voyage
when time is bent
and calculation fails

Even in the daily
present tense
that colluding social point

As near as we can come
to now:
to go to sleep at twenty one

And wake at sixty
alone or with
another head upon the pillow:

Not much comfort
for a stoic
I gCaisleán Óir or anywhere

Else but what there is
I'll take
rise once more from the pit

And I who haven't been drunk
in thirty years
can call to mind

Being on the road in Spain
at twenty-one: being
young in Spain in Spanish boots

iii

My hands two yellow creatures
on the page
like lizards hold the book

While those other poor bare creatures
dip and thrust
around the margins

Swaying and moaning
gasping
sucking licking faking

A hundred thousand times an hour
like piston heads:
spéir-bhean or aisling

Lena cam seang geal-
an tusa Helen nó Venus gleóite:
Ireland of the present times

A voice remembered
O flower of the amber locks?
or the bare-breasted

Snake goddess of Crete
I found in the parlour book-case
long ago in Country Meath:

The stinging nettles
and the naked female satyr waiting
in the thistles in the field

Macdara Woods: Y aquí está: вот там...

Y aquí está: вот там...

Como lo recordaba
Linz de los tranvías silenciosos
que podían tan bien derribar
a un avejentado caballero
de oídos inseguros
y ojos cada vez más débiles

En el brillo entre
Hauptplatz a
Ursulines y Klosterhof
van y vienen
como juguetes ocupados
ensayando para Navidad

Y el silencio es letal
aceitado y letal como cuando
te has abandonado
en un lugar lejano
y esperás una palabra
o el roce de un aliento.

Macdara Woods,  Collected Poems,  2012, Dedalus Press

Versión: Marina Kohon

And There It Is: вот там...

As I remembered it
Linz of the silent trams
That could so well knock down
An ageing gent
With ears unsure
And eyes grown faint

On the glide between
The Hauptplatz to
The Ursulines and Klosterhof
They pass up and down
Like busy toys
Reheasing for Christmas

And the silence is lethal
Oiled and lethal as when
You have left yourself
Abandoned in a far-off place
And wait for a word
Or the touch of a breath.

Macdara Woods: In Spite of Which

In Spite Of Which

Good Friday 50 years ago
In Seville
I lay in bed in the afternooon
Waiting for my boots
The only pair I had
To come back from the mender’s

Today on this Good Friday
I buy a present for my grandson
Whose birthday it is:
And sit in the sun for a while
On a green park-bench
Barely registering the changes

In the shadow of the gate
As I leave
I find a citizen feeding the heron:
Chicken-leg with the bone intact
And the long beak conjures it away
Down the supple grey throat

As quick and out of sight as that
As smooth –
The practiced slightly furtive air
Of pocketing a kickback:
I have to feed him – says the man
Or else he’ll eat the baby ducks

Tragedy or bathos –
It is all I have for the end of story:
A quiet Good Friday
In the blossoming park
And new-hatched Easter ducklings
Unaware of life or death
